Put it online for free
Your page at a public address, after a short safety checklist: no passwords or customer data in the files.
By the end of this lesson
- The safety checklist passed, and the site folder holds only index.html and its images.
- Your site has a public .pages.dev address.
- The link opens and works on your phone.
Lesson 5 of 6: Put it online for free
Module 0: First Hour with Claude
Mark each step as done as you goSaved in this browser only
Your page works on your computer, but nobody else can see it. In this lesson you put it on the internet with Cloudflare Pages, which lets you upload a folder by dragging it into the browser: no terminal, no code tools. A simple page like yours costs nothing to serve: Cloudflare says that “on both free and paid plans, requests to static assets are free and unlimited” (Pages pricing). First, a short safety check, because whatever you upload is public.
Steps follow Cloudflare's direct upload guide and Pages limits, checked October 18, 2026. Button names in Cloudflare's dashboard can change; if one looks different, follow the guide.
Steps
Step 1: Run the safety checklist
Takes about 2 minEverything in the folder you upload can be read by anyone. Before you upload, check:
- no passwords, keys or customer data anywhere in the files;
CLAUDE.mdstays out: it describes how your business works and is not for the public;- no working files (notes, drafts, backups,
hello.mdfrom lesson 2), and no.claudefolder if Claude made one; - the page shows only facts you are happy to publish (address, phone, hours).
You should see
Every point on the list checked, and nothing private left in the folder.
Step 2: Make a clean site folder
Takes about 2 minAsk Claude to prepare a folder with only the files the website needs:
Create a folder called site and copy into it only the files the website needs to work: index.html and any images it uses. Don't copy CLAUDE.md, hello.md or any other file. Then list what is in site. You should see
In Manual mode, Claude first asks before it creates the folder and copies the files: approve each request. Then a list with index.html (and images, if your page has any), and nothing else.
Stuck? The site folder has more than index.html and images
Ask Claude to remove the extra files from site, then list the folder again. Never upload the whole business folder.
Step 3: Create a free Cloudflare account
Takes about 3 minGo to dash.cloudflare.com, sign up with your email and confirm it from the message Cloudflare sends you.
You should see
The Cloudflare dashboard, signed in with your new account.
Stuck? The confirmation email doesn't arrive
Check your spam folder, then ask Cloudflare to send it again from the sign-in page.
Step 4: Start a project by drag and drop
Takes about 1 minIn the dashboard menu, open Compute, then Workers & Pages, and choose Create application. If you only see Workers options, look for the link to Pages at the bottom and choose Get started. Next to Drag and drop your files, choose Get started again.
Type a project name, for example northside-bakery, and choose Create project. Cloudflare says your project “will be served from <PROJECT_NAME>.pages.dev”; if the name is taken, it adds a few random characters.
You should see
An upload area waiting for your files, under your project name.
Step 5: Drag in the site folder and deploy
Takes about 1 minDrag the site folder (not the business folder) into the upload area. You don't need to zip it. When the upload finishes, choose Deploy site (on some screens it says Save and Deploy).
You should see
A success message with your address, for example northside-bakery.pages.dev.
Stuck? A file shows a red warning
It is too large: the limit for drag and drop is 25 MB per file and 1,000 files. Ask Claude to make the image smaller, then upload the whole folder again.
Step 6: Open your site on your phone
Takes about 1 minType your .pages.dev address into your phone's browser. Check the eight customer questions from lesson 4 once more, this time on the phone.
You should see
Your bakery page on your phone, with the address you got in step 5.
Stuck? I see an error page instead of my site
A new address can take a minute to start working, so wait and reload. Still an error? Check that index.html sits directly inside site, not in a folder inside it, and upload again.
Stuck? I just want a quick preview first, without an account
Cloudflare Drop puts a folder, a zip file or a single .html file online with no account. The preview is public right away, but only for a short time: you must “claim the deployment within 60 minutes to keep it”. Copy claim link saves the link you need to do that. Fine for a test, not for your real site. Netlify Drop also works, but its free plan has a monthly credit limit, and when the credits are used up your sites are paused and visitors see a “Site not available” page (Netlify docs).
You're done when
- The safety checklist passed, and the site folder holds only index.html and its images.
- Your site has a public .pages.dev address.
- The link opens and works on your phone.
All done? Go on to lesson 6: Fix it, change it, build the next thing.
Found a mistake? Report a mistake and we'll fix it.
Your site is live. Here's how to keep it working.
Cloudflare and Claude both change their screens. Once a month we send one change that could affect what you built, one prompt for your next task, and any step we fixed. A 3-minute email.
