Claude certification in 2026: who can take the exams, what they cost and free alternatives
Claude certification means four paid Anthropic exams, from $99 to $175 and valid for 12 months, that only people at Claude Partner Network companies can take. Everyone else can start Anthropic's free Claude Academy courses, which give a completion badge, not a certification. This guide explains each exam, who qualifies and which path fits you. If you run a small business, skills you use every day matter more than a badge: that is what our Claude Code course for business owners is about.

Which Claude certification exams exist?
Anthropic runs four role-based exams, delivered by Pearson VUE. The first, Claude Certified Architect, Foundations, launched on March 12, 2026; the other three were announced on July 23, 2026. Many blogs still use unofficial codes like “CCA-F”; the official ones are below.
| Exam | Code | Made for | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Claude Certified Associate, Foundations | CCAO-F | Consultants, sellers and delivery leads who guide customers to the right Claude use cases | $99 |
| Claude Certified Developer, Foundations | CCDV-F | Engineers who build with the Claude API, Claude Code and Model Context Protocol | $125 |
| Claude Certified Architect, Foundations | CCAR-F | Solution architects with 6 or more months of hands-on experience building with Claude | $125 |
| Claude Certified Architect, Professional | CCAR-P | Architects of large enterprise deployments: integration, governance, evaluation | $175 |

Who can take the Claude exams?
Only people who work at a company in the Claude Partner Network. Anthropic's eligibility page says the exams “are open to people who work at organizations in the Claude Partner Network”, and you register with a company email on your partner's domain: “personal email addresses will not work”. You also need to be 18 or older with a government-issued ID.
Joining the network is free, but it is meant for service companies. The partner application asks for a registered business with 10 or more employees, operating in a supported region, that offers consulting, implementation or managed services to customers. Solo freelancers and most small businesses won't qualify. If you think your company does, start on Anthropic's partner page.
How much does Claude certification cost, and how long is it valid?
- Price: $99 (Associate), $125 (Developer and Architect, Foundations), $175 (Architect, Professional), in US dollars before partner discounts. Select, Preferred and Global Premier partners get 50% off; through December 31, 2026, Global Premier partners get 100% off, according to the certification FAQ. Registered-tier partners pay full price.
- Retakes: every retake costs the full fee. You wait 14 days after the first attempt, 30 after the second and 90 after the third, with at most 4 attempts in 12 months.
- Validity: 12 months from the day you pass. Renewing on time is free; if it lapses, you retake the full exam at the full fee (certification FAQ).
- Canceling: not possible in the last 48 hours before your appointment, or you lose the fee.
What is the exam like?
Each exam takes 120 minutes, in English only, either online with a remote proctor (Pearson OnVUE) or at a Pearson test center. Questions are multiple choice and scenario-based multiple response. You need 720 points on a scale of 100 to 1,000 to pass.
- The Developer exam guide lists 53 questions.
- The Architect, Foundations exam picks 4 of 6 real-world scenarios. Its topics: agent architecture and orchestration (27%), tool design and MCP (18%), Claude Code (20%), prompt engineering and structured output (20%) and context management (15%) (exam page).
- If you pass, you get a Credly digital badge and a PDF certificate.
Is there a free Claude certification?
Not for most people. Through December 31, 2026, staff at Global Premier partners take the exams free; everyone else pays. But there are good free courses. Anthropic's Claude Academy is free and needs no paid plan. Many of its courses end with a completion badge you can share with a public link. That proves you finished the course; it is not a certification.
Good free starting points from the Anthropic Academy catalog:
- Claude 101: the basics of working with Claude, about 2.5 hours.
- Claude Code 101 and Claude Code in action: working with Claude Code.
- Introduction to Claude Cowork: multi-step office tasks in the Claude app.
- AI Fluency: Framework and foundations, plus a version for small businesses.
- Introduction to Model Context Protocol: connecting Claude to other tools.
The older Anthropic Academy site on Skilljar still runs in parallel and gives certificates of completion for its courses. Claude Academy's FAQ says certificates you earned there are still yours.

Which path fits you?
You work at a Claude Partner Network company
Pick the exam that matches your role from the table above and ask your company's partner contact to confirm your email domain is on the partner record. Anthropic's exam prep courses are available to partners. Read the exam guide on the official page before you book.
You run an agency or work freelance
Check the partner application first: it asks for a registered business with 10 or more employees. If you don't meet that, you can't sit the exams for now. Free courses and a public portfolio of real work will show clients what you can do.
You own a small business
A certification won't do much for you, and you most likely can't take one. What pays off is a system that saves you time every week: a website you can update, reports that build themselves, emails in your tone. Start with our free guide on how to use Claude Code if you don't code, then build real things in our The No-Code Claude Course course.
How do you prepare for the Claude Certified Architect exam?
Start from the official exam guide on the exam page and its five topic areas. The official prep courses are for partners only. Free Claude Academy courses such as Claude Code in action, Building with the Claude API and the two Model Context Protocol courses cover several of the same topics, but Anthropic doesn't present them as exam prep. The exam guide expects 6 or more months of hands-on work, so real projects matter more than reading.
What should you do next if you can't take a Claude certification exam?
The exams are only for people at Claude Partner Network companies, so most business owners can't take them. These steps build skills you can show instead:
- Learn the building blocks clients ask about: Claude skills and Claude plugins and connectors.
- Pick the plan you need for hands-on work: Claude plans for small business. Claude Code needs Pro or higher.
- Build one real project and keep it. The free course below takes you through a first website for a business, step by step.
Frequently asked questions about Claude certification
Can I get Claude certified without being a partner?
No. Anthropic's certification exams are open only to people who work at organizations in the Claude Partner Network, and you register with your company email. If you are not at a partner company, Anthropic's eligibility page says you can't register for an exam. You can still take the free Claude Academy courses.
Can I get a Claude certificate for free?
Not for most people. The four exams cost $99 to $175 before partner discounts; through December 31, 2026, only staff at Global Premier partners get them free (100% off). What is free for everyone are Anthropic's Claude Academy courses, such as Claude 101 and Claude Code 101. Many of them give a completion badge, which shows you finished the course but is not a certification.
How do I register for a Claude certification exam?
You can register only if you work at a company in the Claude Partner Network; otherwise Anthropic says you can't register. If you do, sign in to Anthropic Partner Academy with your company email (a personal address won't work), choose your exam and pay by credit card. Anthropic then emails you a Pearson VUE link, where you book the exam either online with a proctor or at a Pearson test center. You need to be 18 or older and bring a government-issued ID.
Is there a free CCA (Claude Certified Architect) exam?
Not for most people. Claude Certified Architect, Foundations (official code CCAR-F; blogs often call it CCA or CCA-F) costs $125 and is open only to people at Claude Partner Network companies. The only free route we found: through December 31, 2026, staff at Global Premier partners get a 100% discount on all certification exams, while Select and Preferred partners get 50% off. What is free for everyone is Claude Academy, whose courses need no paid plan and end with a completion badge, which is not a certification.
Is the Claude Academy badge a certificate?
It is proof that you completed a free course, with a public link others can check. It is not one of Anthropic's certifications: there is no proctored exam and no passing score. The older Anthropic Academy site on Skilljar gives certificates of completion for its courses, which are also not certifications.
How much does a Claude exam cost?
Claude Certified Associate costs $99. Claude Certified Developer and Claude Certified Architect, Foundations cost $125 each. Claude Certified Architect, Professional costs $175. Prices are in US dollars before partner discounts, and every retake costs the full fee again.
Is Claude certification worth it for a small business owner?
Usually it is not even an option, because you need to work at a Claude Partner Network company, and the partner application asks for a registered business with 10 or more employees that offers consulting or implementation services. For a business owner, a working system you use every day is worth more than a badge. The free courses and hands-on practice are the better start.
Want results you can show, not a badge?
The No-Code Claude Course is our step-by-step course for business owners who don't code. You build real things for your business with Claude. The first module is free.
