Claude plans for small business: Free, Pro, Max or Team, and which to pick

Of the four Claude plans, most small business owners should start with Claude Pro: $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually, with Claude Code included. Move to Max (from $100 a month) only if you hit Pro's limits most days. Choose Team ($25 per person a month, or $20 billed annually) once two or more people use Claude for the business. The Free plan is for trying Claude and doesn't include Claude Code. Once you have a plan, our Claude Code course for business owners shows how to put it to work.

What changed in this guide

  • : Removed an unsourced line about higher plans in tools connected to Claude for Small Business.
  • : Corrected the Claude for Small Business section: Anthropic lists no separate price, but doesn't say there is no extra cost.
  • : First version. Prices and limits checked twice on Anthropic's official pricing and help pages.

How do Claude usage limits work?

  • Five-hour sessions. Your usage resets every five hours, and there is also a weekly limit across all models. You can see your reset time in Settings, Usage.
  • Shared with Claude Code. On Pro and Max, “all activity in both tools counts against the same limits” (help article). A long Claude Code session uses the same allowance as your chats.
  • Per person on Team. Team limits apply to each member, not to the team as a whole.
  • Usage credits when you run out. You can prepay credits billed at standard API rates and set a monthly spending cap (usage credits).

Is Claude Pro worth it for a small business?

For most owners, yes, if you give it real work every week: a weekly report built from your spreadsheets, product descriptions in your tone, a first website. Pro costs $20 a month. It is also the cheapest plan with Claude Code, which is what lets Claude work with the files on your computer.

It isn't worth it if you only ask a question now and then: the Free plan covers that. Start monthly, and switch to annual billing ($17 a month) once you know you'll keep using it.

Claude Pro vs Max: when is Max worth it?

Max is worth it when Pro's limit, not your time, is what stops you. If you hit the five-hour limit most working days, or you run long Claude Code sessions every day, Max 5x ($100) gives you five times the room. Max 20x ($200) is for full-time, all-day use.

  • Hit the limit once or twice a week? Stay on Pro and buy usage credits when you need them.
  • Hit it most days, alone? Move to Max 5x. Max is billed monthly only.
  • Two or more people? Look at Team before Max: limits are per person and the business terms differ.

When does the Claude Team plan make sense?

As soon as two or more people use Claude for the business. The Team plan is for 2 to 150 people and adds what a business needs on top of Pro: shared projects, admin and billing in one place, single sign-on, and no model training on your content by default (Team plan).

  • Standard seats ($25, or $20 billed annually) give each person 1.25 times Pro's usage.
  • Premium seats ($125, or $100 billed annually) give 6.25 times, for the people who use Claude all day.
  • Billing: you pay for the people on the team at the start of each billing cycle; people added mid-cycle are charged a prorated amount right away, and removing someone doesn't give a refund (how Team billing works).

What happens to your business data on each plan?

On Free, Pro and Max, Anthropic's pricing page marks model training as “Opt-out”: you choose in your privacy settings whether your chats can be used to improve Claude. If you allow it, data can be kept for up to five years; if not, for 30 days (Anthropic's consumer terms update). On Team and Enterprise, training is “None by default”.

If you put client details, contracts or financial files into Claude, Team is the safer default. On a personal plan, check your privacy setting before you start.

Does Claude for Small Business cost extra?

Anthropic doesn't list a separate price. Claude for Small Business, launched on May 13, 2026, adds ready-made workflows and connectors to tools like QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot and Google Workspace (announcement). Anthropic says it is “available on every paid Claude plan” and recommends the Team plan “for businesses with more than one person” (September update). What Claude can do in QuickBooks, Canva or HubSpot depends on your account and permissions there. How to set it up and what it can't do: our guide to Claude for Small Business.

What should you do after picking a Claude plan?

Use the plan on real work for a month before you upgrade or add seats. To get value from it early:

  1. Hand repeat office tasks to Cowork: what Claude Cowork is.
  2. Save each task you repeat as a skill: Claude skills.
  3. Connect the tools you already pay for: Claude plugins and connectors.

On Pro or higher you can also use Claude Code. The free course below starts there.

Frequently asked questions about Claude plans

Is Claude Code included in Claude Pro?

Yes. Claude Code is included in Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, but not in the Free plan. On Pro and Max, everything you do in Claude Code and in the Claude app counts against the same usage limits.

Is there a free trial of Claude Pro or Team?

No. Anthropic's pricing page lists no trial for Pro, Max or self-serve Team; only Enterprise plans bought through sales can include one. The Free plan is the way to try Claude, but it doesn't include Claude Code.

Do Claude prices include tax?

Not on the pricing page: it says prices shown don't include applicable tax. Depending on your region, tax is either included in the local price or added at checkout.

What is the difference between Max 5x and Max 20x?

Usage. Max 5x costs $100 per month and gives five times Pro's usage per session; Max 20x costs $200 per month and gives twenty times. Max is available as a monthly subscription only.

What happens when I hit my Claude usage limit?

You wait for the next five-hour session to start, or you buy usage credits. Credits are billed at standard API rates, and you can set a monthly spending cap so there are no surprises.
