This guide shows how to turn it on, which workflows to try first and what it can't do yet. For work the workflows don't cover, our Claude Code course for business owners teaches you to build your own.

In short
- A plugin from Anthropic with 43 workflows for money, sales, marketing and admin.
- You need the Claude desktop app and a paid plan; Team is recommended for more than one person.
- It connects to tools you already use, such as QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva and Google Workspace.
- Every workflow starts in approval mode: nothing sends, posts or pays until you say so.
- It doesn't replace your accounting, shop or inventory system, and it can only see what your account can see.
What is Claude for Small Business?
It is a set of ready-to-run workflows that put Claude to work inside the tools a small business already uses. Anthropic launched it on May 13, 2026, with 15 workflows; by September it had grown to 43 workflows and 27 new integrations (launch announcement, September update).
Instead of writing a prompt from scratch, you pick a job, for example a Monday business summary, chasing overdue invoices or closing the month for your accountant, and Claude follows a tested recipe with your connected data.
Which Claude plan do you need, and does it cost extra?
Any paid plan works. Anthropic says: “It's available on every paid Claude plan, and we recommend the Team plan for businesses with more than one person.” We found no separate price for the plugin on Anthropic's pages. What Claude can do in QuickBooks, Canva or HubSpot depends on your account and permissions there.

How do you turn it on?
According to Anthropic's install tutorial, you need the Claude desktop app on a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan. Then:
Step 1: Open Customize in the Claude desktop app
Open the Claude desktop app and go to Customize in the left sidebar.
Step 2: Add the Small Business plugin
In the plugins section, find Small Business (by Anthropic) and install it. You can also start from the plugin's page on claude.com.
Step 3: Let Claude set you up
Ask Claude to help you get set up, or run the setup command:
/smb-onboardClaude asks about your business, helps you connect your tools and saves the context, so every other workflow knows it.
Which apps does it connect to?
At launch in May and in the September update, Anthropic named these tools among others:
| Area | Tools |
|---|---|
| Money and accounting | Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal, Xero, Stripe, Square, Gusto |
| Sales and customers | HubSpot, Salesforce, Shopify |
| Marketing and design | Canva, TikTok |
| Office and documents | Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Docusign, Zoom, Atlassian |
| Anything else | Zapier, through the plugin's build-connector skill |
The full list is in Anthropic's September update. Claude only sees what your account can see: “Your existing software permissions hold.”
Which workflows should you try first?
Start with one that only reads your data, then move to one that drafts messages for you. Each workflow is built from Claude skills. These three come from Anthropic's getting started tutorial:
Start with a Monday summary of your business
/monday-briefClaude reads every connected tool and writes “a single page you can scan in a minute”: cash, sales, pipeline and calendar. It only reads, so nothing needs approving. A good first test of your connections.
Then: cash for the next 30 days and overdue invoices
/plan-payrollClaude forecasts the next 30 days of cash and drafts a reminder for each overdue invoice, calibrated to how that customer has paid before. You read each reminder; “Nothing sends until you say so.” Works best with QuickBooks and PayPal connected.
Then: closing the month for your accountant
/close-monthClaude reconciles your books, flags anything that doesn't line up and writes a close packet for your accountant or bookkeeper. You decide what each flag means; what goes to your accountant stays your decision.
Does Claude send emails or pay bills on its own?
No, not by default. Anthropic: “By default, Claude does the work and waits for your approval before anything sends, posts, or pays.” It adds: “Every workflow starts in approval mode.” Some workflows stop before the last step on purpose: Claude stages payroll in Gusto for you to submit.
- Read every draft before you approve it, especially anything with amounts, dates or names.
- Start with read-only workflows, like the Monday summary, before you connect payment tools.
- On Team, an admin decides which plugins people can install (managing plugins).
Is your business data used to train Claude?
On Team and Enterprise, not by default: “By default, we don't train on your business data on Team and Enterprise plans.” (Claude for small business). On Pro and Max, training is a setting you choose; our plans guide explains the difference.
What can't Claude for Small Business do?
From Anthropic's own pages:
- It only reads data your account can already access.
- Pricing, signing contracts and what goes to your accountant stay your decisions.
- What it can do in QuickBooks, Canva or HubSpot depends on your account and permissions there.
- Without connectors, you upload spreadsheets or statements and send the replies yourself.
Independent reviews point to more gaps. In May 2026, Techsy called e-commerce the biggest hole, listed Square as the only point-of-sale connector and noted Claude is not a system of record for stock; TechInformed made similar points. September added Shopify, Square and others, but as of October tools like Toast, Etsy and Amazon are still not on Anthropic's list. If your business runs on a shop or a till, check your tools before you count on it.
Is Claude for Small Business worth it?
If your business already runs on tools like QuickBooks, HubSpot or Google Workspace and you have a paid Claude plan, it is worth turning on: the read-only Monday summary shows you quickly whether your connections work. It is less useful if your work lives in tools that aren't on the list, or in your own files and spreadsheets.
For that second kind of work, Claude Code lets you build your own systems from your files. Start with our free guide on how to use Claude Code if you don't code.
What should you do after setting up Claude for Small Business?
Start with one workflow you run every week and check its results for a month. Then:
- Add connectors only for the apps that workflow needs: Claude plugins and connectors.
- Write your own skills for the procedures the ready-made ones don't cover.
- Build systems around your business, such as your website, with Claude Code. The free course below shows how.
Frequently asked questions about Claude for Small Business
Is Claude for Small Business free?
You need a paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise), and Anthropic doesn't list a separate price for the plugin. What Claude can do in QuickBooks, Canva or HubSpot depends on your account and permissions there.
Does Claude have a small business plan?
Not as a separate price plan: Claude's pricing page lists Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. “Claude for Small Business” is a plugin with ready-made workflows that works on every paid plan, and Anthropic recommends the Team plan for businesses with more than one person. On October 21, 2026, Pro cost $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually; Max starts at $100 a month; a Team standard seat costs $25 per person a month, or $20 billed annually, for teams of 2 to 150. Prices don't include tax and can change, so check the pricing page before you buy.
Does it work without the desktop app?
Anthropic's install tutorial says you need the Claude desktop app on a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan. Plugins can also be used in other places, but the small business setup is described for the desktop app.
Can it work with apps that aren't on the list?
Yes, in part. The plugin includes a build-connector skill for tools that aren't connected directly, using Zapier. Without any connector, you can still upload spreadsheets or statements and send the replies yourself.
Does it work outside the US?
Anthropic doesn't publish a separate country list for the plugin. Claude itself is available in the countries on Anthropic's supported regions page, and some connected tools, such as MYOB, are mainly used outside the US. The workshops announced in September are in US cities.
Where can I learn to use it for free?
Anthropic's Claude Academy has free tutorials on installing and using the plugin, and a course called AI Fluency for small businesses with 8 lessons and a quiz, made with PayPal (checked October 19, 2026).
Want systems built around your business?
The No-Code Claude Course is our step-by-step course for business owners who don't code. You build your own tools with Claude, from your files. The first module is free.
